For Fibreglass and Wood Boats
Antennas don't work unless they are mounted on a metal structure such as a car,
this metal Surface is called a ground plane If there is no ground plane then one has to be simulated!
such is the case of ground independent antennas.
If you mount an antenna on a fibreglass or wood boat you will need a ground independent antenna
these antennas do not supply their own ground plane "they simulate them"
this is important to note as a ground independent antenna never works better than an antenna mounted on its own ground plane
such as a metal car or boat.
Ground independent antennas have a higher angle of radiation Ground independent antennas are very narrow banded.
Ground independent antennas are DC grounded ( reads a dead short at the connector)
You should avoid cutting the coax shorter than 3.1mtrs, If you have excessive coax try to run it in a wide loop - do not tightly coil it.
Inside the white base is a coil and capacitor that are tuned to the antenna top- Also the antenna top is tuned to the base
if you damage the antenna top the replacement antenna will not necessarily be perfectly tuned to the existing base , so
is important if you can , test with a SWR meter if you replace the antenna.
Mobile One tunes every single marine antenna before it leaves the factory.
Aluminium or metal Boats
Ground independent antennas will work ok on any metal boat
But a non ground independent antenna using the boat as a ground plane will work much better
Most 27MHz CB antennas can be tuned to 27.880MHz on a boat,
The longer the antenna the better the performance - Call Peter on 0246556677 for more info. |
